Men’s Night 8/11 Results — Choose Your Own Adventure RWB on the Back 9
27 players came out yesterday to see if they could crack the RWB code on the Back 9 and, when all the shots had been played, 33 was the magic number. With net scores of -3 for the nine, Phil Martin, Daryl Stone, Derek Ward, Adam Miller, and Sam Bowmer all shot 33 to share 1st place honors this week. Well done gentlemen!
After some extremely hot takes, Calvin “Klay” Harkless kept the heat rolling on the poker table to walk away as the big winner for the night. We can only hope he uses his $13 in winnings to buy some ice…which may also come in handy for the upcoming 1v1 fútbol matchup.
Men’s Night 8/11 — Choose Your Own Adventure RWB on the Back 9
With the storms last night, lift, clean, and place in your own fairway, one club-length, no closer to the hole, is in effect as well as our local rule for plugged balls in a known landing zone.

For Men’s Night this week, to have some fun on the Back 9, we’ll be playing our Red, White & Blue Tees format but with a twist. Each player may select their own combination of red, white and blue tees to play as they proceed through their round. Over the course of the Back 9 holes, participants must play 3 holes from reds, 3 holes from whites, and 3 holes from blues. Aside from the 3 of each color stipulation, you may choose any combination of RWB tees you’d like and you do not need to play the same tee choices as your fellow group members.
Rule of 75 gold tee players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may select 3 red, 3 gold, and 3 white tee holes to play on the Back 9.
Net scoring applies with 100% of Back 9 white tee handicaps — low net score wins.
Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop.
Competition Rules for Men’s Night 8/11
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 using 100% of their white tee, Back 9 course handicaps. (100% of gold tee course handicaps for Rule of 75 players.)
Over the course of the Back 9 holes, participants must play 3 holes from reds, 3 holes from whites, and 3 holes from blues using any combination of tees. Rule of 75 gold tee players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may select 3 red, 3 gold, and 3 white tee holes to play on the Back 9.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off.
We will be playing lift, clean and place in your own fairway, one club-length, no closer to the hole. Additionally, all bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either play your ball as it lies (rake and place) or take free relief. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and play from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
All Holes — Shots that land in play but cannot be found because the ball has plugged may be replaced (by dropping a replacement ball) without penalty at the most likely landing spot as determined by the consensus of the player’s fellow group members. For this rule to apply, you must be virtually certain of your landing location and this landing zone cannot be within 1 club-length of a penalty area or out of bounds.
All recently seeded and re-sodded areas, drain trenches and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club length should be considered Ground Under Repair.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.

For Men’s Night this week, the 3rd edition of the 2022 Shootout series is here! For our Shootout format on the Back 9, all players meet on the 10th tee at 4:45 PM — please be a few minutes early so we can organize everyone’s Back 9 course handicaps.
As a full group (think 25-some), all competitors play #10 together (please mark your ball). The low 9 net scores on #10 progress to the 11th tee. A chip-off will be used to break any ties for who proceeds to #11 (top 9 low net from #10).
On holes 11-18, we eliminate 1 player with the highest net score on each hole: i.e. 9 competitors play #11, 8 competitors play #12…all the the way down to 2 players on the 18th hole. Chip-offs decide tied-for-high-score holes.
The last man standing after #18 has been played is the Shootout winner.
For this week’s Shootout festivities, once again, our special guest Shootout referee is back—current Springfield Golf & Country Club member, 2019 Stearns Cup Champion, former MGA Competition Chair, fantastic match play opponent, and all-around great guy—Mr. Mike Lyons. Mike will handle all handicap calculations, rulings, and chip-off decisions for elimination.
