Men’s Night 4/14 — Competition Rules

Men’s Night 4/14 — Stableford Back 9

For Men’s Night this week, we’ll be playing our Stableford format on the Back 9, please check in with the Pro Shop beforehand. Points will be awarded based on the standard Stableford scoring breakdown using 100% of individual Back 9 handicaps.

  • Net Double bogey or higher: 0 points
  • Net Bogey: 1 point
  • Net Par: 2 points
  • Net Birdie: 3 points
  • Net Eagle: 4 points, and so on.

All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (age + handicap >= 75) may play golds. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 4/14

  • For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 using 100% of their Back 9 course handicaps.
  • Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds.
  • With the possibility of rain in the forecast, an overall assessment of course playability / availability throughout the day will be used to determine if there has been enough time for Men’s Night play to count submitted scores for an official result.
  • We will be playing lift, clean and place in your own fairway, one club-length, no closer to the hole. Additionally, all bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either play your ball as it lies (rake and place) or take free relief. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and play from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
  • All Holes — Shots that land in play but cannot be found because the ball has plugged may be replaced (by dropping a replacement ball) without penalty at the most likely landing spot as determined by the consensus of the player’s fellow group members. For this rule to apply, you must be virtually certain of your landing location and this landing zone cannot be within 1 club-length of a penalty area or out of bounds.
  • Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
  • Our Stableford format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from payout and placement consideration.

Champions Dinner & Men’s Night 4/7 Results

We’d like to say a big thank you to all the players who came out this afternoon to brave the rain and enjoy some Champions Dinner food and camaraderie. It was really great to see everyone out at the club and congratulations again to all our 2021 Champions!

Master Men’s Night Vs. Tiger Results

In a strong showing at Augusta today, Tiger came out and shot even on the Front 9 with 1 birdie (#6) and 1 bogey (#8). After all was said and done at NGC, 3 players were able to best Tiger on his opening 9 and score 10 total points. Adam Miller, Matt Doherty, and Weston Happ all beat Tiger 1-up in their 9-hole heads-up matches. Congrats to our first Men’s Night winners of the 2022 season.

Complete Results

T-1st – Adam Miller (10 Tiger points) – 30 Chase Points – $28.46
T-1st – Matt Doherty (10 Tiger points) – 30 Chase Points – $28.46
T-1st – Weston Happ (10 Tiger points) – 30 Chase Points – $28.46
T-4th – Jim Sussmann (9 Tiger points) – 15 Chase Points – $13.65
T-4th – Mark Mattis (9 Tiger points) – 15 Chase Points – $13.65
T-4th – Andy Westerkom (9 Tiger points) – 15 Chase Points – $13.65
T-4th – Dave Krukowski (9 Tiger points) – 15 Chase Points – $13.65

We also had a fantastic turnout for the #12 Ball Skipping contest which was great fun. After a first attempt that may have landed on the 10th green, Ed Clarke stepped up and skipped his second attempt to 24 feet and took the $50 credit book prize. Well done Mr. Ed!

Thank you again to all our MGA members and NGC staff who make our home club such a special place.

Men’s Night 4/7 — Format & Competition Rules

Match Play vs. Tiger’s Opening 9 at The Masters on 4/7

For our 1st Men’s Night of the 2022 season and in celebration of Tiger teeing it up at The Masters, we’ll be playing match play vs. Tiger’s opening Front 9 at Augusta on Thursday, April 7th. Our Champions Dinner will take place rain or shine in the clubhouse from 4:00-7:00 PM following Men’s Night rounds.

For each hole on the Front 9 at NGC this week, you’ll compare your net score to Tiger’s on his Front 9. Each time you tie him, you’ll earn 1 point. Each hole you beat him you’ll earn 2 points. When Tiger’s score (relative to par) is better than your net score on a hole, you get 0 points. Points will be awarded using 100% of individual Front 9 handicaps — Play well!

The example below shows the breakdown of points earned vs. an example Front 9 for Tiger:

In this example, a net par on the 1st hole would earn a tie with Tiger for 1 point. A net par on the 2nd hole would gain you 2 points. And a net bogey on #3 would be worth 0 points. If for any reason Tiger does not complete the Front 9 holes at Augusta on Thursday, we’ll use his opening 9 from his first round in competition at The Masters in 1996.

Ball Skip on #12 — Closest to the Pin

We’ll also be holding an additional side-competition with a Ball Skipping, Closest to the Pin contest which will be setup across the pond on #12. Each Men’s Night competitor may take 2 chances to skip their balls across the lake from the teeing ground we will have set up — closest to the pin wins $50 credit book provided by the MGA.

Our Closest to the pin winner and Men’s Night Top-3 will also receive a Masters ball marker donated graciously by our very own Masters insider, Mr. Matt Doherty. Mr. Doherty can be seen here demonstrating how to perform the #12 skip shot flawlessly.

Record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 4/7

  • For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Front 9 using 100% of their Front 9 course handicaps.
  • We will be playing lift, clean and place everywhere, one club-length, no closer to the hole but NOT within penalty areas.

  • Our Vs. Tiger format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from payout and placement consideration.
  • All Men’s Night participants may take 2 attempts at the ball skipping, closest to the pin contest on #12. To count, a closest to the pin attempt must skip on the water before coming to rest on the green.
