During the round, positive points are added on the following basis using gross hole scores:

We hope that everyone is enjoying a great Memorial Day weekend. We’d like to take a moment to express our gratitude and honor the brave women and men who selflessly gave their lives so we can enjoy time with family and friends. We honor their memory and express our deepest appreciation for their unwavering commitment and sacrifice.
Match Play Round 1 — June 11th Deadline
We are now just 2 weeks from the deadline for Round 1 matches in the Match Play Main Bracket which is June 11th. Please be in touch with your Round 1 opponent ASAP about scheduling your match if you have not yet done so. Contact [email protected] or call the Pro Shop (301) 292-1100 if you need your opponent’s contact information.
For Men’s Night this week, the 1st edition of the 2023 Shootout series is here! For our Shootout format on the Back 9, all players meet on the 10th tee at 4:30 PM — please be a few minutes early so we can organize everyone’s Back 9 course handicaps.
As a full group (think 25-some), all competitors play #10 together (please mark your ball 😂). The low 9 net scores on #10 progress to the 11th tee. A chip-off will be used to break any ties for who proceeds to #11 (top 9 low net from #10).
On holes 11-18, we eliminate 1 player with the highest net score on each hole: i.e. 9 competitors play #11, 8 competitors play #12…all the the way down to 2 players on the 18th hole. Chip-offs decide tied-for-high-score holes.
The last man standing after #18 has been played is the Shootout winner.
For this week’s Shootout festivities, our special guest Shootout referee is back—current Springfield Golf & Country Club member, 2019 Stearns Cup Champion, former MGA Competition Chair, fantastic match play opponent, and all-around great guy—Mr. Mike Lyons. Mike will handle all handicap calculations, rulings, and chip-off decisions for elimination.

With the 1st MGA major of the 2023 season officially in the books, we’d like to say thank you to everyone who made this year’s tournament a tremendous success!
Thank you to Tiffany for keeping everything so well organized all weekend! Thank you to Pete for always dotting all the I’s and crossing all the T’s to make sure everything is in order for us. Thank you to the whole pro shop crew for setting everything up for us perfectly both days. Thank you to Christine, Rahel, Mimi, Terry, and Tsehaye for working through all the behind the scenes logistics and thank you to the NGC F&B staff for the great clubhouse hospitality. Thank you to John Burns for coming in early Sunday morning for extra course maintenance and to all the grounds crew for all their countless hours of hard work. Thank you to our photographer extraordinaire, Vivianne, for the great tournament photos.
And finally, thank you to all our members, especially those playing in their first MGA tournament. Your wholehearted participation in MGA events make NGC the truly special place that it is!
Memorial Cup Results
In the Net Division, we had an amazingly competitive battle that came down to the final holes. When all the strokes had been tallied, 4 players—Andrew Neill, Dan Ryan, Ed Clarke, and Kevin Gates—ended at +2 net to share T-2nd honors and, finishing at even par net, Matt Nolan took home the well deserved victory. Great playing Matt!
In the Gross Division, a hard fought battle vs. the course left James Hsiao 3rd (+11), Scott Redmond 2nd (+10), and Sam Bowmer 1st (+6) — With the low round of the weekend of 70 on Saturday, very well played Sam and congrats on the victory!
For all Memorial Cup participants, we ask that everyone post their own tournament scores to the GHIN handicap system as “Competition” scores from white tees (and as gold tees for our Rule of 75 players). All postings will be double checked this week and corrected if necessary by the club.
Tournament Photos 📸
Once again, we’d like to say thank you to our awesome member, Vivianne Couts, for shooting some fantastic action shots that we’re so happy to share!
For this weekend, we ask that all Memorial Cup participants post their own tournament scores to the GHIN handicap system as “Competition” scores from white tees (and as gold tees for our Rule of 75 players).
All postings will be double checked early next week and corrected if necessary by the club.
Attached you’ll find the groups + starting holes for Round 2 of the Memorial Cup which will begin again with a 9:00 AM shotgun start. Additionally, you’ll find the Tournament Rules Sheet which includes the general MGA Tee locations.
Food
Lunch will be served on Sunday at the conclusion of play.
Tournament Scoring
All tournament scoring will be handled via the NGC App. The app can be found here for iPhone and here for Android. All groups will be pre-loaded into the App and we ask that each group uses the App to track their group’s scores.
