Men’s Night 10/23 — Tee Ladder with Chicago scoring on the Back 9

For our penultimate Men’s Night of the season this week, we’ll be playing Tee Ladder with Chicago scoring on the Back 9. Here’s how it works:

All players start on the Red Tees for Hole #10. If you make a gross par or better on a hole, you move up the tee ladder for the next hole:

•  The “tee ladder” progresses from Red Tees → Gold Tees → White Tees → Blue Tees 

If you make a gross bogey or worse, you reset and return to the Red Tees for the next hole.

Progression Example:

• Make gross bogey on Hole #10 → Remain on Red Tees for Hole #11
• Make gross par on Hole #11 → Move to Gold Tees on Hole #12
• Make gross par again on Hole #12 → Move to White Tees on Hole #13
• Make gross bogey on Hole #13 → Return to Red Tees for Hole #14
• Make gross birdie on Hole #14 → Move to Gold Tees on Hole #15
• and so on…

Rule of 75 Players (age + handicap index ≥ 75): The highest tee you can reach is the White Tees. Even if you continue making par or better, you will not move back to the Blue Tees.

Scoring:

• We’ll be using our Chicago scoring system: Players start with a negative number of points (based on 18-hole course handicaps) then add positive points during their round. The idea is to get from the negative to the positive, clearing your “hurdle” by as many points as possible.

MGA Closing Day Stableford — Saturday, November 1st

Sign-ups continue for the final MGA tournament of the season, our Closing Day Stableford, which is set to be played Saturday, November 1st with a 9:30 AM shotgun start. 

For this 1-Day event, we’ll have both Gross and Net divisions and use the standard Stableford scoring breakdown:

• Double Bogey or higher: 0 points
• Bogey: 1 point
• Par: 2 points
• Birdie: 3 points
• Eagle: 4 points, and so on.

All participants in the net division must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy.

Men’s Night 9/25 through 10/1 + 10/2 Shootout @ 3:45 PM

Our extended Men’s Night from last week continues through tomorrow 10/1 for scorecard submissions of Stableford rounds on the Front 9 (competition rules).

For this week, we’ll be playing our final Shootout of the season starting at 3:45 off #1. Any players who cannot make it for the 3:45 start or who get eliminated from the Shootout may submit Front 9 scorecards for a separate Stableford competition.

2025 Stearns Cup — 2-Man Team Sign-Ups

Team sign-ups continue the final MGA major of the season, the Stearns Cup, which is set to be played this Saturday & Sunday, October 4th + 5th.

The format for Stearns Cup is 2-man teams playing 2-day, 36 hole, best ball for both gross and net awards. 100% of handicaps apply for net play. Standard MGA tees, with Rule of 75 for gold tee players.

Men’s Night 9/25 through 10/1 — Shootout Rescheduled, Stableford + Poker Freeroll @ 6:30 PM for Rounds completed on Thursday

With uncertainty about the forecast for tomorrow, we’re moving our scheduled final Shootout of the season to next week 10/2 @ 3:45 PM — We’re also extending the Men’s Night window for this week so that Front 9 rounds may be submitted through next Wednesday 10/1.

For this week, we’ll be playing Stableford on the Front 9 with the scorecard submission window running from 9/25 through 10/1. For those who’d like to play some poker and enjoy this week’s Thursday night specials, the MGA will be sponsoring poker buy-ins based on Stableford points collected for all those who complete their Men’s Night rounds tomorrow, Thursday 9/25. 

For example: If you play tomorrow and tally 16 Stableford points for Men’s Night, you’ll receive $16 of chips. Cash buy-ins and cash re-buys will be allowed and all MGA sponsored Stableford entries will be paid out in credit book.

Poker will start around 6:30 PM for those who can play!

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 9/25–10/1

• For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Front 9 using 100% of their Front 9 course handicaps. Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field. Stableford Front 9 rounds may be submitted through next Wednesday 10/1.
  
• Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (age + handicap >= 75) may play golds. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.
  
• We will be playing LIFT, CLEAN, and PLACE in your OWN FAIRWAY, one club-length, no closer to the hole. All BUNKERS will be played as GROUND UNDER REPAIR. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either rake and place within the bunker or take free relief outside the bunker. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and DROP from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
  
• Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any “Dollar Spot”, dead patches, “Crabgrass” weed patches, and/or fungus/disease, no closer to the hole. Additionally, “Dollar Spot” areas, dead/diseased patches, or “Crabgrass” weed patches on the green may be considered Ground Under Repair from which putting-line relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. The maximum relief distance for putting green relief is one club-length from the current ball position on the green.
  
• Bare areas larger than one club-length in your own fairway (or connected to your own fairway), bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and tire tracks should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. Additionally, netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole.
  
• Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, the hill between the 7th and 8th holes, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
  
• Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
  
• This week’s format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes.Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from placement consideration.
