Men’s Night 8/3 Results — 3-Club Challenge Front 9
19 players came out yesterday to try their hand at playing the Front 9 with only 3 clubs + their putter and, as it turns out, scoring well really doesn’t take 14 clubs. When all the Stableford points had been tallied, Nathaniel Burgess earned his 2nd Men’s Night victory in two attempts and took home 1st place points for this week. Well played sir!
For Men’s Night this week, we’ll be playing our 3-Club Challenge format on the Front 9 using Stableford scoring. Before the round, each player will select 3 clubs + their putter to use exclusively. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds. Points will be awarded based on the standard Stableford scoring breakdown using 100% of individual Front 9 handicaps.
Net Double Bogey or higher: 0 points
Net Bogey: 1 point
Net Par: 2 points
Net Birdie: 3 points
Net Eagle: 4 points, and so on.
Please clearly identify your chosen 3 clubs + putter to your playing partners before teeing off #1 (4 clubs total with putter as 1 of the 4). Record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop.
Competition Rules for Men’s Night 8/3
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Front 9 using 100% of their Front 9 course handicaps and Stableford scoring for our 3-Club Challenge. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off. For this week, all players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds.
Clearly identify your chosen 3 clubs + putter to your playing partners before teeing off #1 (4 clubs total with putter as one of the 4). Any of your chosen clubs (including putter) can be used at any time from any position during your round.
We will be playing LIFT, CLEAN, and PLACE in your OWN FAIRWAY, 1-club length, no closer to the hole. All bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either rake and place within the bunker or take free relief outside the bunker. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and DROP from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any “Dollar Spot” fungus/disease, no closer to the hole. Additionally, “Dollar Spot” brown-patch areas on the green larger than 2 feet may be considered Ground Under Repair from which putting-line relief may be taken (as far as necessary), no closer to the hole.
Netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club length should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.

Thank you to all the teams that came out to brave the heat yesterday for the 2023 edition of our MGA Shamble. Birdies and eagles abounded alongside the true camaraderie that the MGA is all about. We also want to send a big thank you to all the NGC staff who helped make the day a great success!
In the net division, some great scoring overall was capped off by a very impressive net 55 (-17) by the Wet Shoes team of Jim Beals & Bill Coady. Well played gentlemen!
In the gross division, the team of Bunkers Bombers The Sequel was able to defend their win from last year and repeat as our 2023 champions. Congrats to Calvin Harkless & Kyle Armstrong who carded a clean 64 (-8) to take home the victory!
17 players came out to the 10th tee yesterday for a Shootout battle on Back 9. An exciting series of holes ensued with chip-offs on #10, #12, #14, #16, #17 and #18. Kyle Armstrong made a strong bid for the Shootout triple crown and was barely eliminated on #17 when his chip to 8 inches was surpassed by 2 chips to 6 inches. On #18, after Weston Happ and Nathaniel Burgess tied the hole with pars, once again, the smallest of margins determined the chip-off winner. With a very impressive W in his 1st Men’s Night / Shootout, well played to our newest MGA member, Nathaniel Burgess!
1st – Nathaniel Burgess – 30 Chase Points 2nd – Weston Happ (eliminated on #18) – 26 Chase Points 3rd – Kyle Armstrong (eliminated on #17) – 22 Chase Points 4th – Adam Miller (eliminated on #16) – 18 Chase Points 5th – Ryan White (eliminated on #15) – 14 Chase Points 6th – James Hsiao (eliminated on #14) – 10 Chase Points

For Men’s Night this week, the 3rd edition of the 2023 Shootout series is here! For our Shootout format on the Back 9, all players meet on the 10th tee at 4:45 PM — please be a few minutes early (around the range / putting green by 4:30 PM) so we can organize everyone’s Back 9 course handicaps.
As a full group (think 25-some), all competitors play #10 together (please mark your ball). The low 9 net scores on #10 progress to the 11th tee. A chip-off will be used to break any ties for who proceeds to #11 (top 9 low net from #10).
On holes 11-18, we eliminate 1 player with the highest net score on each hole: i.e. 9 competitors play #11, 8 competitors play #12…all the the way down to 2 players on the 18th hole. Chip-offs decide tied-for-high-score holes.
The last man standing after #18 has been played is the Shootout winner.
For this week’s Shootout festivities, our special guest Shootout referee is back—current Springfield Golf & Country Club member, 2019 Stearns Cup Champion, former MGA Competition Chair, fantastic match play opponent, and all-around great guy—Mr. Mike Lyons. Mike will handle all handicap calculations, rulings, and chip-off decisions for elimination.
