Men’s Night 5/2 — Choose Your Own Adventure RWB on the Front 9
For Men’s Night this week, to add to the summertime temperatures, we’ll be playing our Red, White & Blue Tees format on the Front 9 but with a twist. Each player may select their own combination of red, white and blue tees to play as they proceed through their round. Over the course of their Front 9 holes, participants must play 3 holes from reds, 3 holes from whites, and 3 holes from blues. Aside from the 3 of each color stipulation, you may choose any combination of RWB tees you’d like and you do not need to play the same tee choices as your fellow group members. Players may make their tee selections live during their rounds as long as they play 3 holes from each color RWB tee during the 9.
Rule of 75 gold tee players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may select 3 red, 3 gold, and 3 white tee holes to play on the Front 9. (Please note on your card with “gold” next to your name.)
Net scoring will apply with 100% of Front 9 white tee handicaps. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop.
Match Play Round 1
The deadline for Round 1 matches in the Main Bracket is June 9th. Please be in touch with your Round 1 opponent ASAP about scheduling your match. Contact [email protected] or call the Pro Shop (301) 292-1100 if you need your opponent’s contact information.
We had an awesome turnout of 35 players last night for our Chicago battle on the Back 9 and, when all the shots had been counted, two men used 8-point, gross eagles to propel themselves to the top of the leaderboard. On a night of great scoring where you had to at least reach your hurdle to place, Ryan White and Kyle Armstrong both tallied +4 Chicago points to share the win. Well played gentlemen!
In a great kickoff to a (hopefully) weekly, post-Men’s Night poker game, laughs were had all around and rusty poker logistic skills were slightly sharpened. In the end, Jim Sussmann had the most fun of all and Ed Clarke battled gravity to a solid draw. Let’s play again next week!

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 4/25
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 using 100% of their 18-hole course handicaps converted to Chicago starting points. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.
We will be playing LIFT, CLEAN, and PLACE in your OWN FAIRWAY, one club-length, no closer to the hole. All BUNKERS will be played as GROUND UNDER REPAIR. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either rake and place within the bunker or take free relief outside the bunker. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and DROP from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any aeration holes or “Dollar Spot” fungus/disease, no closer to the hole. Additionally, “Dollar Spot” brown-patch areas on the green larger than 2 feet may be considered Ground Under Repair from which putting-line relief may be taken (as far as necessary), no closer to the hole.
Bare areas larger than one club-length, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and tire tracks should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. Additionally, netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
This week’s format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from placement consideration.
Men’s Night Groups
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursdays with an accompanying MGA member. Men’s Night groups are formed in an impromptu manner with MGA players who arrive around the same time on Thursdays playing together. Most players play their Men’s Night 9-holes around 3PM but we most often have guys playing throughout the day, including some players going off early and some players playing later in the afternoon / early evening. We hope to keep the camaraderie going after Men’s Night rounds this season with poker and/or other shenanigans around the clubhouse!

On a gorgeous day at NGC, we had a fantastic turnout for our 1-Man Scramble challenge and it was great to see a bunch of new MGA members playing their first Men’s Night. In the end, 38 MGAers took to the Front 9 to determine if 2 shots were better than 1 and the answer was a resounding yes! After all the shots were completed, one man walked away with an awesome score of 29. Proving that he was his own best teammate, Will Keyes took home the well deserved victory for his 1st career Men’s Night win — well played sir!
To have some fun this week, we’ll be playing our 1-Man Scramble format on the Front 9. For this individual scramble format, you get 2 shots off the tee and choose the best one, you then get 2 shots from the next position, choose the best, and so on until you have completed the hole. We look forward to seeing some low scores!
Please record gross, individual scramble scores on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop. 50% of Front 9 course handicaps apply to calculate net scores — low net score wins.

With Scottie slipping on the Green Jacket last night, one of the best golf weeks of the year is in the books. We’d like to, once again, say thank you to all our MGA members who came out on Thursday for our Masters Men’s Night and Champions Dinner as well as to all the MGAers who took part in the spring A-Team matches. On Saturday, the NGC A-Team took to the links both home and away to battle Turf Valley (and the wind!) in the second round of the MSGA State Team Championship. In the end, NGC did not advance out of the round of 32 but collected 6.5 hard fought points. Having proven that we have a lineup that can win matches, we’re very excited for what the summer WMGA A-Team Matches have in store! Look for the next round of A-Team qualifying starting in June.

For this tournament, each player’s handicap is used to determine how many mulligans will be allotted during their round. Using their allotted mulligans, each player records their best possible gross score. Net scores will also be calculated by the scoring app for a Net Division. The Rule of 75 (Age + Handicap >= 75) applies for gold tee players. Please sign up using the online registration link. All participants must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy.

Starting today, April 15th, we will maintain our 2-in-30 posting requirement for 2024. To compete in MGA net competitions with your GHIN handicap, players must maintain 36-holes of posted scores (either full 18 or 9-hole scores) from NGC in the last 30 days. Thank you all our MGA members who came out yesterday for our Masters Men’s Night and Champions Dinner — it is this group of guys who all truly love golf that makes NGC such a special place! A big thank you to Tsehaye and Donnee for the state of the course update, and to Christine, Mimi and all the NGC staff for a great night of hospitality. Does it get better than enjoying Tiras de Pollo Crujientes while watching golf until dark?! Congratulations once again to all our 2023 MGA Champions and we look forward to a fantastic season of champions in 2024.
On the course, 28 players came out for a battle vs. Tiger’s opening round Back 9 at Augusta which we all got to watch wrap up this morning! With bogeys on #14 and #18, Tiger made the scoring interesting and, in the end with a stellar round in which he did not lose a single hole to Tiger, one man came out victorious. Scoring 15 Vs. Tiger points, well played and congrats to Leo Goff, our 2024 Masters Men’s Night winner!
In the side-contests, new MGA member Brad Adams hit an absolute bomb on #11 to win the Long Drive contest and, rumor has it, it was only a 3-wood off the tee!
When it came to the Ball Skipping contest, laughs were had all around and one man hit the shot we were all trying for. With a great skip to 22 feet, well done Jay Aanrud!
Finally, in the Putting Contest, one man only needed one putt to knock it to 6 inches and capture the victory. Great putt Jim Sussmann!
Masters Men’s Night 4/11 — Beat Tiger’s Back (9) at Augusta
For each hole on the Back 9 this week, you’ll compare your net score to Tiger’s on his live Back 9 for Round 1 at the Masters. Using net scores relative to par, each time you tie him, you’ll earn 1 point. Each hole you beat him you’ll earn 2 points. When Tiger’s score (relative to par) is better than your net score on a hole, you get 0 points.
*If for any reason Tiger does not complete the Back 9 holes at Augusta for his first round, we’ll use defending champion Jon Rahm’s Back 9 score.
Side-Contests for Masters Men’s Night: Drive, Skip & Putt
Before, after, or during your Men’s Night round, the following side-contests will be set up and all Men’s Night participants are encouraged to partake! Signage and markers for the side-contests will be in place by noon on Thursday.
Drive: On #11 — longest drive in the fairway wins.
Skip: Across #12 pond — 3 chances per Men’s Night participant, closest to the pin wins. Bring some extra shag balls!
Putt: Long putt on the putting green — best of 3 chances. Who can make a 40 footer?
To really ramp up the excitement, our very own Masters insider, Mr. Matt Doherty, has graciously donated 4 Masters ball markers that will be awarded to the side-contests winners in addition to credit book. Thank you Mr. Doherty!
Competition Rules for Masters Men’s Night 4/11
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play our Beat Tiger format on the Back 9 using 100% of their Back 9 course handicaps. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field. Additionally, credit book prizes and Masters ball markers will be awarded to side-contest winners.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.
With the possibility of rain in the forecast, an overall assessment of course playability / availability throughout the day will be used to determine if there has been enough time for Men’s Night play to count submitted scores for an official result.
All Holes — Shots that land in play but cannot be found because the ball has plugged may be replaced (by dropping a replacement ball) without penalty at the most likely landing spot as determined by the consensus of the player’s fellow group members. For this rule to apply, you must be virtually certain of your landing location and this landing zone cannot be within one club-length of a penalty area or out of bounds.
This week’s format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from placement consideration.
Champions Dinner
We are on rain or shine for the Champions Dinner tomorrow, April 11th, with our “Tapas y Pintxos” buffet starting at around 5:30 PM — all MGA members are invited! We’ll have the 2023 MGA Champions trophies to hand out that night so we hope to have a fantastic turnout. We look forward to seeing everyone there for food, camaraderie, and celebration… Oh, and to watch some golf!
