Men’s Night 10/20: 1-Club Challenge — Competition Rules

Men’s Night 10/20 — 1-Club Challenge Back 9 from Gold Tees

To have some fun for our penultimate Men’s Night of the season, we’ll be playing our 1-Club Challenge on the Back 9 from Gold Tees with Stableford scoring.

For the 1-Club Challenge, each participant selects 1 club to use for all shots (including putting) for the entire round. Please check in with the Pro Shop beforehand. Points will be awarded based on the standard Stableford scoring breakdown using 100% of individual Back 9 handicaps (see Handicap Allotment guidelines below).

All players play from gold tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play reds.

Using only 1 club:

  • Net Double Bogey or higher: 0 points
  • Net Bogey: 1 point
  • Net Par: 2 points
  • Net Birdie: 3 points
  • Net Eagle: 4 points, and so on.

Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 10/20

  • For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 with our 1-Club Challenge format from Gold Tees with Stableford scoring.
  • Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off. All players play from gold tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play reds.
  • Handicap Allotments: Despite playing from the gold tees, players will receive 100% of their Back 9 handicap allotment of strokes from whites. Rule of 75 players who are playing red tees will receive 100% of their Back 9 handicap allotment from golds.
  • We will be playing the ball down everywhere. As the exception, all bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either play your ball as it lies (rake and place) or take free relief. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and play from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
  • Leaf Rule (drop with 1 shot penalty) — Balls that cannot be found in a known landing zone (as determined by the consensus of the player’s fellow group members) because the ball is obscured by leaves may be replaced with a 1 shot penalty, dropping the replacement ball at the most likely location for where the original ball was covered by leaves. “Leaf Rule” landing zones for 1-shot-penalty drops cannot be within 1 club-length of penalty areas or out of bounds.
  • Sod seams in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club length should be considered Ground Under RepairDROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.
  • Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
  • Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
  • Our 1-Club Challenge format is NOT valid for handicap posting purposes.

Upcoming MGA Schedule

  • 10/20 — 1-Club Challenge: Back 9 from Gold Tees with Stableford scoring — Players choose only 1 club to use for all shots (including putting) for the entire round.
  • 10/27 — E-9: Final Men’s Night of 2022. All players meet on the 1st tee at 4:00 PM for a traditional NGC E-9. Scramble teams will be determined by handicap index.
  • 10/29 — MGA Closing Day Stableford: Final MGA event of the season, 18-hole Stableford format with gross and net divisions.

Night Golf: A Night To Remember

Oh What A Night

One of the greatest nights in recent NGC history is in the books—truly one that will not be forgotten any time soon. Before we recap, we have some wholehearted thank yous to send out for all those that made our Night Golf event a great success.

First and foremost, thank you to all the NGC staff who gave us such a magical night. To Mary Ann, John, Christine, Chef Lois, Donnee, Basil, Jada, and everyone who works to make NGC what it is for all of us, we are so thankful. Fantastic food followed by great times had by all on the course is exactly what we all love about NGC.

A huge thank you goes to Leo Goff who’s idea, dedication, and hard work made Night Golf and the fellowship that ensued a reality. We salute you sir!

Additionally, thank you Chuck Roster who, along with Leo, made the logistics of lighting up the night happen! Thank you Chuck!

Night Golf Results

Glow balls lit up the night and the birdies were flying as 40 players took to the NGC Night Golf Course™ last night. With real-life shot-tracer-mode activated, both good and bad shots alike earned oos, ahs, and lots of laughs. The pond on #9 literally glowing became the 2nd best pond pond story of the night and a glow-stick skeleton roamed the fairways. Several teams reached deep into red figures but, when all the laser-shots had been struck, one team stood atop the leaderboard at -8 for the 9. With 2 eagles on #1 and #5 to go along with birdies on #3, #10, #12 and #18, the team of Carlo Ross, Travis Henderson, Lloyd Stimson, Mark Mattis, and Weston Happ earned the bragging rights for the 2022 Night Golf season. Cheers to all on a fantastic night!

All MGA participants for Night Golf have been awarded 25 Points Chase points.
