NGC Toys For Tots 2022

NGC’s Annual Toys For Tots Collection Drive Now Ongoing Through December 18th

As we have for many years in the past, NGC members will be collecting toys to donate to Toys For Tots. Please bring unwrapped gifts to the table in the clubhouse for collection. We greatly appreciate everyone’s generosity during this holiday season!

The morning of the Santa Open, Saturday December 17th, will be a great day to bring your toy to donate. The last day to bring in toys will be Sunday, December 18th, which is also NGC’s Breakfast with Santa morning.

We look forward to seeing the toy collection stack up as we sneak out all the remaining golf days 2022 has to offer.

Happy Holidays NGC!

Mike Miller Tournament: 1/1/2023 — Team Sign-Ups

11th Annual Mike Miller Golf Tournament at NGC

Team sign-ups are now open for the Mike Miller Tournament which is set for New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2023. For this tournament, 4-player teams compete playing a shamble format with Net + Gross divisions for both Individual and Team awards.

About the Mike Miller January 1st Tradition

A famous line in golf, “A tradition unlike any other,” has been coined for the Masters, but the same can be said for the playing of New Year’s Day golf at National Golf Club. For years, players of all ages and abilities have taken to the course on January 1st to ring in the New Year with a fun 18 holes. There are stories of shoveling the driving range and impromptu get-togethers just to say golf was played on January 1st at NGC.

Mike Miller was an ambassador of the January 1st tradition and would host a party at his home following the event. Mike left us January 24th, 2013 but we continue the tradition in his memory.

This year we celebrate the 11th annual playing of the Mike Miller Tournament. We hope you can join us for a great day of team shamble golf— all NGC members, previous members, and guests are welcome!

Sign up with your team online here.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 10/6

  • For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 using 100% of their 18-hole course handicaps converted to Chicago starting points..
  • Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds.
  • We will be playing lift, clean and place in your own fairway, one club-length, no closer to the hole. Additionally, all bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either play your ball as it lies (rake and place) or take free relief. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and play from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
  • Sod seams in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club length should be considered Ground Under RepairDROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.
  • Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
  • Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
  • This week’s format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from payout and placement consideration.
