Men’s Night 5/12, Match Play 1st Round, Memorial Cup Sign-Ups

Men’s Night 5/12 — Stableford Front 9

For Men’s Night this week, we’ll be playing our Stableford format on the Front 9, please check in with the Pro Shop beforehand. Points will be awarded based on the standard Stableford scoring breakdown using 100% of individual Front 9 handicaps.

  • Net Double bogey or higher: 0 points
  • Net Bogey: 1 point
  • Net Par: 2 points
  • Net Birdie: 3 points
  • Net Eagle: 4 points, and so on.

All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (age + handicap >= 75) may play golds. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.

Sign-ups continue for our 1st MGA Major of the year, the Memorial Cup, which is set to be played Saturday and Sunday, May 21st + 22nd with a 9:30 shotgun start both days. Please sign up via the online registration portal. 

The format for Memorial Cup is 2-day, 36-hole stroke play with both gross and net prizes. To compete in the NET division, all players must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement.

Men’s Night 5/5 Results — Luchador Solo Back 9

In our best Men’s Night turnout of the season thus far, 32 players took to the course for our 1-Man Scramble on the Back 9 and quatro Luchadores walked away with first place honors on Cinco de Mayo. Leo Goff, Matt Nolan, James Hsiao, and Weston Happ all carded net 31s to T-1st overall — ¡Bien Hecho!

2022 Match Play Bracket

Our 2022 Match Play Main Bracket has been set by random blind draw and attached here. With 59 total entries, 5 players received byes into Round 2. All players who do not win their Round 1 match in the Main Bracket will form our secondary Wildcard Bracket which will be drawn after all Round 1 matches have been completed. Players who received a Round 1 bye in the Main Bracket will not be eligible for the Wildcard Bracket.

Final Call for Match Play Sign-Ups

2022 MGA Match Play Tournament

Sign-ups close today at 5:00 PM for our season-long, NCAA-bracket-style, 2022 Match Play Tournament. The cost to participate is $30 and the bracket will be set via a random draw tonight. The field will be limited to the first 64 entrants so please sign up ASAP using the online registration portal. 

To confirm your sign-up, please check the online registration list here.

All players will be responsible for scheduling their own match dates and times in coordination with their opponents once the brackets have been drawn. Participants must have valid handicaps that are active within the GHIN handicap system. Additionally, prior to the start of any match, competitors must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement. If a participant does not meet this requirement on the date of a scheduled match, the player who has not posted two 18-hole or combined rounds in the last 30 days will play as scratch (0 handicap) for that day’s match.

Men’s Night 5/5: Luchador Solo — Competition Rules

Men’s Night 5/5 — Cinco de Mayo: Luchador Solo (1-Man Scramble) Back 9

For Men’s Night this week, we’ll be playing our 1-Man Scramble format on the Back 9. For this format, you get 2 shots off the tee and choose the best one, you then get 2 shots from the next position, choose the best, and so on until you have completed the hole.

Please record gross, individual scramble scores on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop. 50% of Back 9 course handicaps apply to calculate net scores — low net score wins.

To facilitate the Cinco de Mayo festivities, the bar will be offering buy one, get one on all beers and the kitchen will have a $10 wings special.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 5/5

  • For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 with our 1-Man Scramble format. 50% of Back 9 course handicaps will be used to calculate net scores.
  • Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds.
  • With the nature of our 1-Man Scramble format, we will be playing lift, clean, and place everywhere for all shots including within penalty areas, 1-club length, no closer to the hole. Additionally, all bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either play your ball as it lies (rake and place) or take free relief. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and play from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
  • All recently seeded and re-sodded areas, drain trenches and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole.
  • Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
  • Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
  • Our 1-Man Scramble format is NOT valid for handicap posting purposes.

Men’s Night 4/28 Results — Shootout Back 9

18 players came out last night to make our 1st Shootout and Steak & Spuds Night of the season a great success. The MGA would like to send a special thank you to Mike Lyons for refereeing the festivities, to Leo Goff for making the Steak Night dream a reality, to Chef Lois and all the kitchen staff for the delicious food, and to the NGC front of house staff who always make NGC a great place to gather with friends.

After the many ups and downs, pressure packed moments, chip-offs, and even a 56º wedge to the shin that was survived by Ed Clarke, Weston Happ walked away as the last man standing and took the Shootout victory.

Poker Wrap-Up

In the (quickly becoming) Thursday night tradition like no other, Calvin Harkless, Jared Powell, and Dave Krukowski walked away from the poker shootout cash positive and we all walked away with a new perspective on Kevin Costner.
