Sign-ups continue for our season-long, NCAA-bracket-style, 2023 MGA Match Play Tournament and, with 60 players currently signed up, only 4 spots remain open!
The cost to participate is $30 and the bracket will be set via a random draw on Thursday, May 4th. The field will be limited to the first 64 entrants so please sign up ASAP using the online registration portal. All players will be responsible for scheduling their own match dates and times in coordination with their opponents once the brackets have been drawn.
All participants will need valid handicaps that are active within the GHIN handicap system. Additionally, prior to the start of any given match, competitors must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement. If a participant does not meet this requirement on the date of a scheduled match, the player who has not posted two 18-hole or combined rounds in the last 30 days will play as scratch (0 handicap) for that day’s match.

A huge thank you goes out to all the MGA players and NGC staff who came out yesterday to make our 1st weekend tournament of the 2023 season a great success! The course played fast and firm, and we were all able to beat the rain to enjoy some great post-round camaraderie in the clubhouse. Poker and more golf (that embraced the rain) wrapped up a perfect day at the course we all love. Here’s to a tremendous MGA year ahead!
In a very close battle that came down to the final putts in our newly added Net Division, Mike Reynard and Torey Diggs finished tied 3rd with net scores of 60. And, with impressive scores of net 59, Mel Kince and Bruce Sedlak shared the well deserved 1st place honors. Well played gentlemen!
In the Gross Division, the battle for the win came down to the last hole of the day and, in the end, Adam Miller finished with a 3-under 69 to just edge out Ed Clark who shot 70. Great playing Adam Miller and congratulations on the hard-fought victory!
Attached you’ll find the groups + starting holes for tomorrow’s Play It Again Tournament which will begin with a 9:00 AM shotgun start. Additionally, you’ll find the Tournament Rules Sheet which includes the general MGA Tee locations. Food will be served in the clubhouse at the conclusion of play.
Tournament Scoring
All tournament scoring will be handled via the NGC App. The app can be found here for iPhone and here for Android. All groups will be pre-loaded into the App and we ask that each group uses the App to track their group’s scores.

On a beautiful day on the course, a season’s best 39 players came out for a 4/20 Men’s Night Stableford showdown on the Front 9. With a very impressive gross 35 and a tally of 23 Stableford points, Leo Goff played some fantastic golf and took home the well deserved Men’s Night victory this week.
Sign-ups close tonight at 8:00 PM for our 1st MGA weekend event of the season, the 2023 Play It Again Tournament, which will be played this Saturday, April 22rd with a 9:00 AM shotgun start. All weekend MGA tournaments are open to full and weekday NGC members who have paid their MGA dues for the year.
For this tournament, each player’s handicap is used to determine how many mulligans will be allotted during their round. Using their allotted mulligans, each player records their best possible gross score, low score wins. Rule of 75 (Age + Handicap >= 75) applies for gold tee players. Please sign up using the online registration link.
Gold Tee Players (Rule of 75)
If you qualify for the Rule of 75 (Age + Handicap >= 75) and plan to play gold tees but do not have a “(gold)” designation next to your name on the online leaderboard, please send a quick reply to this email at to [email protected] so we can get you set up correctly for Saturday.
New For 2023: Addition of Net Division
For this year’s edition of the Play It Again, we are adding a Net Division for overall net scoring. All players will still play the same format, using allotted mulligans based on 18-hole course handicaps and recording gross scores in the app. The scoring app will handle all net score calculations and a net leaderboard will be live throughout the tournament — Let’s see some low numbers! Our traditional gross scoring division will still be in effect and players will place in the division (gross or net) where they rank best on the final leaderboards.

Over the weekend, both the A-Team and Senior A-Team had matches which were competed both home and away. On Saturday, the A-Team took on Brenton Bay in a 1st round matchup of the MSGA bracket and earned 6 points in a hard fought 6-12 loss. We’re already looking forward to our Summer A-Team matches which start July 8th.
In the WMGA Senior A-Team Tournament, coming off a fantastic 6.5-5.5 win last weekend over Fort Belvoir GC, the NGC Senior A-team took on CC of Fairfax on Sunday. After an epic showdown that ended 6-6, a 3-way tiebreaker in the group advanced our Senior A-Team into the Final 8 to take on Belle Haven CC next Sunday. Well done Senior A-Team — Keep it rolling vs. Belle Haven!
Thank you to all the NGC staff who helped to make the matches we hosted at home a great success!
