Men’s Night 10/27 — E9 Team Scramble on the Front 9
For our final Men’s Night of the 2022 season, we’ll be having some fun and playing our traditional NGC E9 format on the Front 9. For any who have not had an opportunity to participate in an E9 extravaganza in the past, we will all meet on the 1st tee and divide into even scramble teams based on handicaps. We then play as an oversized, full group, with each 4-5 man team playing a scramble. The team with the low scramble score wins! 1st place team = 30 Chase Points, 2nd place team = 25 Chase Points, 3rd place team = 20 Chase Points, etc.
Please be around the putting green by 3:45 PM on Thursday to help facilitate the creation of teams and so we can start a little early if possible.
Men’s Night 10/20 Results — 1-Club Challenge Back 9

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 10/20
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 with our 1-Club Challenge format from Gold Tees with Stableford scoring.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please check in with the Pro Shop before you tee off. All players play from gold tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play reds.
Handicap Allotments: Despite playing from the gold tees, players will receive 100% of their Back 9 handicap allotment of strokes from whites. Rule of 75 players who are playing red tees will receive 100% of their Back 9 handicap allotment from golds.
We will be playing the ball down everywhere. As the exception, all bunkers will be played as Ground Under Repair. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either play your ball as it lies (rake and place) or take free relief. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and play from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
Leaf Rule (drop with 1 shot penalty) — Balls that cannot be found in a known landing zone (as determined by the consensus of the player’s fellow group members) because the ball is obscured by leaves may be replaced with a 1 shot penalty, dropping the replacement ball at the most likely location for where the original ball was covered by leaves. “Leaf Rule” landing zones for 1-shot-penalty drops cannot be within 1 club-length of penalty areas or out of bounds.
Sod seams in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club length should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
Our 1-Club Challenge format is NOT valid for handicap posting purposes.

In a fantastic conclusion to the 2022 MGA major season, one of the best weather weekends of year was the perfect companion to great course conditions, excellent golf, and the camaraderie of team golf. We’d especially like to say thank you to Mr. Stearns for the ongoing legacy he created at NGC and to all the NGC staff who helped make the weekend a huge success. Thank you to Mary Ann and Pete for making sure all our bookkeeping and tournament logistics were perfect. Thank you to John and all his crew for getting the course and greens into great shape. Thank you to Donnee for keeping us organized and always on time with the whistle. Thank you to all the Pro Shop and golf staff who are the lifeblood of the golf course we love. And thank you to Jada, Basil, Chef Lois, Christine, and all the clubhouse staff for all the great food & drink and for always making the clubhouse feel like our 2nd home (because it pretty much is).
Net & Gross Division Results
19 teams battled it out in the 2022 edition of the Stearns Cup and, across the board, we had some very intriguing storylines. In the year of the repeat, word on the street is that the #11 & #12 pond has hired a PR firm for multiple trending “incidents”, but that’s a tale for another day…
In the Net Division, the fight for 1st place honors came down to the final holes and, when all was said and done, the team that came to repeat their 2021 victory showed what true champions are made of by capturing the 2022 title. Congratulations to Mike Reynard & Victor Grinev whose White Russian team finished at -14 just edging out the M&M’s Plain team of Myron Gibert & Mel Kince who finished 2nd at -13 and the Busbee/Helmer team of Mike Helmer & Micah Busbee who came in 3rd at -12.
In the Gross Division, one team was looking to threepeat and all others were looking to start a winning streak of their own and take home the cup. After some great golf from the 4 teams who finished under par for the weekend, the Can You Threepeat That? team of James Hsiao & Weston Happ was able to answer the question and take home the 2022 championship. Finishing the weekend bogey-free at -8, Can You Threepeat That? edged out the Dorkless team of Matt Doherty & Calvin Harkless who finished 2nd at -4, the AP🇺🇸⛳️🇨🇦⛳️ team of Adam Miller & Patrick Escalambre who finished 3rd at -3, and the Dirty Birdies team of Jim Sussmann & Brian Carlstrom who finished 4th at -1.
Thank you to all our MGA members who played this weekend and who took part in our majors this season. It’s been a great year and let’s have a great final 2 weeks!
