MGA Monday Mashup: Men’s Night, Match Play, Memorial Cup

Men’s Night 5/4 — 3-Club Challenge

For Men’s Night this week, we’ll be playing our our 3-Club Challenge format on the Front 9. Before the round, each player will select 3 clubs + their putter to use exclusively. 100% of Front 9 course handicaps apply, low net score wins. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds.

Please clearly identify your chosen 3 clubs + putter to your playing partners before teeing off #1 (4 clubs total with putter as 1 of the 4). Record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop.

Memorial Cup Sign-Ups

Sign-ups are now open for our 1st MGA Major of the year, the Memorial Cup, which is set to be played Saturday and Sunday, May 20th + 21st with a 9:00 AM shotgun start both days. Please sign up via the online registration portal

The format for Memorial Cup is 2-day, 36-hole stroke play with both gross and net divisions. To compete in the NET division, all players must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement.

We had an awesome 45 players come out for our 1-Man Scramble on the Back 9 yesterday — way to show out MGAers, let’s keep the great participation rolling!

In the end, when all the strokes had been counted, 29 proved to be the magic number giving us a 4-way tie for 1st place this week. Well played Calvin HarklessAdam MillerSam Bowmer, and Leo Goff — you proved that when Player B is along for the ride, anything is possible!

2023 Match Play Bracket

Gentlemen —

Our 2023 Match Play Main Bracket has been set by random, blind draw and attached here. For the first time in recent memory, we have a full 64 player field and, consequently, no Round 1 byes. All players who do not win their Round 1 match in the Main Bracket will form our secondary Wildcard Bracket which will be drawn after all Round 1 matches have been completed.

Match Play Competition Notes

  • Match scheduling should be determined via direct communication between opponents.
  • Matches are to be played using standard, 18-hole, match play format.
  • All Match Play matches should be played from white tees. Rule of 75 players (age + handicap > 75) may play gold tees.
  • Prior to the start of a match, competitors must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement. If a participant does not meet this requirement on the date of a scheduled match, the player who has not posted two 18-hole or combined rounds in the last 30 days will play as scratch (0 handicap) for that day’s match.
  • Please check in with the Pro Shop before starting your match so that handicap strokes for the match can be determined and finalized.

Men’s Night 4/27: 1-Man Scramble Back 9

Please record gross, individual scramble scores on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in all completed cards to the Pro Shop. 50% of Back 9 course handicaps apply to calculate net scores — low net score wins.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 4/27

  • For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 with our 1-Man Scramble format. 50% of Back 9 course handicaps will be used to calculate net scores. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field.
  • Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. All players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.
  • With the nature of our 1-Man Scramble format, we will be playing lift, clean, and place EVERYWHERE for all shots including within penalty areas, 1-club length, no closer to the holeand RAKE and PLACE for all bunkers. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may lift, clean, rake and place within the bunker taking as much relief as necessary to place your ball on a playable bit of sand, no closer to the hole.
  • Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any aeration holes, no closer to the hole.
  • Netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club-length should be considered Ground Under RepairDROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.
  • Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
  • Our 1-Man Scramble format is NOT valid for handicap posting purposes.

2023 Match Play is Now Full

We have reached a full field of 64 players for the 2023 Match Play Tournament and registration is now closed — well done everyone who signed up! Because we are now full, the bracket drawing will happen one week early, this Thursday, April 27th. Once the bracket is set by random, blind draw, it will be sent out via email and all participants will have from April 28th through June 11th to complete their 1st round matches. All players will be responsible for scheduling their own match dates and times in coordination with their opponents once the brackets have been drawn.

Our Senior A-Team took on Belle Haven yesterday in the elimination round of the WMGA team tournament. Although NGC was unable to advance, we’d like to send out a huge congratulations to our Senior A for advancing to the Final 8. Well played gentlemen!

MGA Match Play: Only 4 spots left!

2023 MGA Match Play Tournament

Sign-ups continue for our season-long, NCAA-bracket-style, 2023 MGA Match Play Tournament and, with 60 players currently signed uponly 4 spots remain open

The cost to participate is $30 and the bracket will be set via a random draw on Thursday, May 4th. The field will be limited to the first 64 entrants so please sign up ASAP using the online registration portal. All players will be responsible for scheduling their own match dates and times in coordination with their opponents once the brackets have been drawn.

All participants will need valid handicaps that are active within the GHIN handicap system. Additionally, prior to the start of any given match, competitors must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement. If a participant does not meet this requirement on the date of a scheduled match, the player who has not posted two 18-hole or combined rounds in the last 30 days will play as scratch (0 handicap) for that day’s match.

Play It Again Tournament Results

2023 MGA Play It Again

A huge thank you goes out to all the MGA players and NGC staff who came out yesterday to make our 1st weekend tournament of the 2023 season a great success! The course played fast and firm, and we were all able to beat the rain to enjoy some great post-round camaraderie in the clubhouse. Poker and more golf (that embraced the rain) wrapped up a perfect day at the course we all love. Here’s to a tremendous MGA year ahead!

In a very close battle that came down to the final putts in our newly added Net Division, Mike Reynard and Torey Diggs finished tied 3rd with net scores of 60. And, with impressive scores of net 59, Mel Kince and Bruce Sedlak shared the well deserved 1st place honors. Well played gentlemen!

Play It Again Groups + Tournament Rules

Gentlemen —

Attached you’ll find the groups + starting holes for tomorrow’s Play It Again Tournament which will begin with a 9:00 AM shotgun start. Additionally, you’ll find the Tournament Rules Sheet which includes the general MGA Tee locations. Food will be served in the clubhouse at the conclusion of play.

Tournament Scoring

All tournament scoring will be handled via the NGC App. The app can be found here for iPhone and here for Android. All groups will be pre-loaded into the App and we ask that each group uses the App to track their group’s scores.
