For Men’s Night this week, the 2nd edition of the 2023 Shootout series is here! For our Shootout format on the Front 9, all players meet on the 1st tee at 4:45 PM — please be a few minutes early (around the range / putting green by 4:30 PM) so we can organize everyone’s Front 9 course handicaps.
As a full group (think 25-some), all competitors play #1 together (please mark your ball). The low 9 net scores on #1 progress to the 2nd tee. A chip-off will be used to break any ties for who proceeds to #2 (top 9 low net from #1).
On holes 2-9, we eliminate 1 player with the highest net score on each hole: i.e. 9 competitors play #2, 8 competitors play #3…all the the way down to 2 players on the 9th hole. Chip-offs decide tied-for-high-score holes.
The last man standing after #9 has been played is the Shootout winner.
The 2023 edition of the MGA Red, White & Blue Tournament is officially in the books and, what started off rainy, turned into a fantastic weekend! We’d like to thank all the NGC staff who helped to make the weekend a great success. And thank you to all the players who came out to both compete and take part in the camaraderie that makes the MGA the awesome group that it is.
After some great scores on Saturday, the final round setup for a tight finish right down to the very end. On Sunday afternoon, when all was said and done, Travis Henderson and Patrick Escalambre stood alone as our 2023 RWB Champions. In a rock solid performance, Travis Henderson took the win in the Net Division at -8. In the Gross Division, after an exciting final few holes, Patrick Escalambre took the victory to successfully defend his title from last season and go back-to-back in RWB wins. Well played to our champions!
Well done today everyone. To give us the best chance of having the greens cut in the morning before tomorrow’s Round 2, we’re going to move once again to a 10:00 AM shotgun start.
Attached you’ll find the pairings and starting holes for Round 2. Lunch will be served at the conclusion of play tomorrow.
Handicap Posting
We ask that all players post their own scores from today (and tomorrow) as White Tee Competition scores (and Gold Tee scores for Rule of 75 players). All score posting will be double checked as necessary early next week.
With the heavy rainfall we’re currently experiencing at the course, we’re moving the shotgun start time to 10:00 AM for tomorrow morning. This will hopefully give the course a little extra time to dry and our maintenance crew some additional time in the morning as well. Breakfast burritos will be available starting at 9:00 AM.
18 players braved the forecast and took to the Back 9 for a Chicago showdown yesterday. At the end of the day, only one man matched his Chicago hurdle, collecting 17 points to finish at a tally of 0. Well played to our Men’s Night winner this week, Mr. Matt Nolan!
Attached you’ll find the groups + starting holes for Round 1 of this weekend’s Red, White & Blue Tournament which will begin with a 9:00 AM shotgun start both days. Additionally, you’ll find the Tournament Rules Sheet which includes the RWB tee locations.
Food
Breakfast burritos will be served on Saturday morning starting at 8:00 AM and lunch will be served on Sunday at the conclusion of play.
Tournament Scoring
All tournament scoring will be handled via the NGC App. The app can be found here for iPhone and here for Android. All groups will be pre-loaded into the App and we ask that each group uses the App to track their group’s scores.

Competition Rules for Men’s Night 6/22
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 using 100% of their 18-hole course handicaps converted to Chicago starting points. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.
With the possibility of rain in the forecast, an overall assessment of course playability / availability throughout the day will be used to determine if there has been enough time for Men’s Night play to count submitted scores for an official result.
We will be playing LIFT, CLEAN, and PLACE in your OWN FAIRWAY, 1-club length, no closer to the holeand RAKE and PLACE for all bunkers. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may lift, clean, rake and place within the bunker taking as much relief as necessary to place your ball on a playable bit of sand, no closer to the hole.
Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any “Dollar Spot” fungus/disease, no closer to the hole. Additionally, “Dollar Spot” brown-patch areas on the green larger than 2 feet may be considered Ground Under Repair from which putting-line relief may be taken (as far as necessary), no closer to the hole.
Netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole. Additionally, tire tracks, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and bare areas larger than a club length should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
This week’s format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from placement consideration.
