We had an awesome turnout of 35 players last night for our Chicago battle on the Back 9 and, when all the shots had been counted, two men used 8-point, gross eagles to propel themselves to the top of the leaderboard. On a night of great scoring where you had to at least reach your hurdle to place, Ryan White and Kyle Armstrong both tallied +4 Chicago points to share the win. Well played gentlemen!
In a great kickoff to a (hopefully) weekly, post-Men’s Night poker game, laughs were had all around and rusty poker logistic skills were slightly sharpened. In the end, Jim Sussmann had the most fun of all and Ed Clarke battled gravity to a solid draw. Let’s play again next week!
Our 2024 Match Play Main Bracket has been set by random, blind draw and attached here. We have a full 64 player field and, consequently, no Round 1 byes. All players who do not win their Round 1 match in the Main Bracket will form our secondary Wildcard Bracket which will be drawn after all Round 1 matches have been completed.
The deadline for Round 1 matches in the Main Bracket is June 9th. Please be in touch with your Round 1 opponent ASAP about scheduling your match. Contact [email protected] or call the Pro Shop (301) 292-1100 if you need your opponent’s contact information.
Match Play Competition Notes
Match scheduling should be determined via direct communication between opponents.
Matches are to be played using standard, 18-hole, match play format.
All Match Play matches should be played from white tees. Rule of 75 players (age + handicap > 75) may play gold tees.
Prior to the start of a match, competitors must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement. If a participant does not meet this requirement on the date of a scheduled match, the player who has not posted two 18-hole or combined rounds in the last 30 days will play as scratch (0 handicap) for that day’s match.
Please check in with the Pro Shop before starting your match so that handicap strokes for the match can be determined and finalized.
Please report final results of all matches promptly to [email protected]

Eagle = 8 points
Albatross = 16 points
Competition Rules for Men’s Night 4/25
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors play the Back 9 using 100% of their 18-hole course handicaps converted to Chicago starting points. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one-third of the field.
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursday with an accompanying MGA member. Please record gross scores for all holes on scorecards with names clearly marked and turn in completed cards to the Pro Shop.
We will be playing LIFT, CLEAN, and PLACE in your OWN FAIRWAY, one club-length, no closer to the hole.All BUNKERS will be played as GROUND UNDER REPAIR. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may either rake and place within the bunker or take free relief outside the bunker. To take relief, you must find the nearest point of complete relief outside the bunker and DROP from within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole.
Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any aeration holes or “Dollar Spot” fungus/disease, no closer to the hole. Additionally, “Dollar Spot” brown-patch areas on the green larger than 2 feet may be considered Ground Under Repair from which putting-line relief may be taken (as far as necessary), no closer to the hole.
Bare areas larger than one club-length, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and tire tracks should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. Additionally, netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
This week’s format allows for the completion of a 9-hole round that is valid for handicap posting purposes. Men’s Night scores must be posted promptly to your handicap account. Any player who places but has not posted will have their score disqualified from placement consideration.
Men’s Night Groups
Men’s Night rounds may be played at any time on Thursdays with an accompanying MGA member. Men’s Night groups are formed in an impromptu manner with MGA players who arrive around the same time on Thursdays playing together. Most players play their Men’s Night 9-holes around 3PM but we most often have guys playing throughout the day, including some players going off early and some players playing later in the afternoon / early evening. We hope to keep the camaraderie going after Men’s Night rounds this season with poker and/or other shenanigans around the clubhouse!

Our 2024 edition of the MGA Play It Again tournament is officially in the books and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. A huge thank you goes out to Tiffany, Pete, Rahel, Tsehaye, Christine, Mimi, and all the NGC staff who made the day a tremendous success. Also, we’d like to give a big shout-out to all our new members who were competing in their first MGA event. Here’s to a fantastic season of competition and camaraderie to come!
When it came to the golf, we saw some great scores and hopefully everyone enjoyed a well executed mulligan or two! In the end, with a stellar 7-under 65 which included an eagle on #17, Royce Huffaker captured victory in the gross division. And, in the net division, with a fantastic round that included 6 birdies and 7 mulligans left unused, Viktor Grinev took home the win with a net 53. Well played gentlemen!
For tomorrow, we’ll be playing a gross skins game with scores made using mulligans fully in play. Venmo $20 to @Weston-Happ tonight or tomorrow before you tee off to join the mulliganed skins fun!
Morning Snacks
Bagels, breakfast pastries, and coffee will be provided by the club in the morning before our 9:30 AM shotgun start. We won’t have any organized tournament food after the round.
