Thank you to Donnee, Tiffany, Lauren, Rahel, Christine, and all the NGC staff for being the heartbeat of the club we all truly love. And thank you to all our MGA members who, through competition and camaraderie, make NGC the place we all want to spend our best days.
Happy 4th of July week to all! 🇺🇸
RWB Results
Over the course of the weekend, we had the chance to play each hole from the red tees (odd numbered holes on Saturday and even numbered holes on Sunday) and, from all reports, some new areas of course were explored while some very good scores were recorded. In the end, even scorching feels-like temps and a burst water main on #7 couldn’t slow down our 2024 Champions.
In the Net Division, Logan Schultz recorded two stellar rounds and finished at -15 net to edge out Hassan El-Amin who finished 2nd at -13 and Micah Busbee who finished 3rd at -11. Well played Logan!
On the Gross Division side, Adam Miller put on a dominating performance finishing as the only player in red figures at 5-under par and winning by 6 shots overall. With clutch up-and-down on #15, an eagle 3 on #16, and two solid pars to finish the day, Mr. Miller closed the door on Clay Thatcher and James Hsiao who both shot under par rounds on Sunday to finish tied 2nd at +1 for the tournament.
Great playing and congrats to our 2024 RWB Champions, Logan Schultz and Adam Miller!
Handicap Posting + Tournament Charges & Credit Book
We ask that all players post their own tournament scores to the GHIN handicap system as “Competition” scores with GOLD TEES as the selected tee box. All postings will be double checked this week and corrected if necessary by the club.
All cart fees from Saturday & Sunday have been added to participant accounts and our $30 tournament entry fee + credit book distributions will be added next week when our MGA master accountant Pete is back in the shop!
2024 RWB Photos
Thank you to our MGA photographers extraordinaire, Rahel and Chuck for the awesome photos! All of Chuck’s RWB photos can be found here.
Well played today everyone — very fun to see lots of red numbers on the Net and Gross leaderboards! Attached you’ll find the groups and starting holes for tomorrow’s Round 2 of the RWB Tournament.

26 players came out for our 2nd Shootout of the season yesterday and, when all was said and done, one man stood victorious on the 18th green. With stellar play throughout the 9-hole battle, Brad Adams proved he had the right stuff and footwear to take home the Shootout win. Great playing sir!
A special thanks goes out to Matt Doherty for taking the refereeing reins! Also, be sure to check out EWTN News Capitol Hill Correspondent Erik Rosales’ flash interview with our winner linked below!

The format for our RWB Tournament is 2-day, 36-hole, individual stroke play with both gross and net prizes. Each day the course will be set up with a different combination of red, white, and blue tees. To compete in the NET division, all players must meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting requirement.
MGA Red, White & Blue: Saturday and Sunday, June 29th + 30th Sign-Up Deadline: Thursday, June 27th @ 8:00 PM Cost: $30 — all participants must be MGA members Online Registration Portal: https://mga.golf/2024-RWB/
For Men’s Night this week, the 2nd edition of our 2024 Shootout series is here! For our Shootout format on the Back 9, all players meet on the 10th tee at 4:45 PM — please be a few minutes early (around the range / putting green by 4:30 PM) so we can organize everyone’s Back 9 course handicaps.
As a full group (think 25-some), all competitors play #10 together (please mark your ball). The low 9 net scores on #10 progress to the 11th tee. A chip-off will be used to break any ties for who proceeds to #11 (top 9 low net from #10).
On holes 11-18, we eliminate 1 player with the highest net score on each hole: i.e. 9 competitors play #11, 8 competitors play #12…all the the way down to 2 players on the 18th hole. Chip-offs decide tied-for-high-score holes.
The last man standing after #18 has been played is the Shootout winner.
For this week’s Shootout festivities, our special guest Shootout referee is back—current Springfield Golf & Country Club member, 2019 Stearns Cup Champion, former MGA Competition Chair, fantastic match play opponent, and all-around great guy—Mr. Mike Lyons. Mike will handle all handicap calculations, rulings, and chip-off decisions for elimination.
Competition Rules for Men’s Night 6/27
For this week, all Men’s Night competitors start play on the Back 9 teeing off #10 at 4:45 PM using 100% of their Back 9 course handicaps. There is no entry fee for Men’s Night this week and only Points Chase points will be awarded to the top one third of the field. Please be a few minutes early and around the range / putting green by 4:30 PM.
All chip-off and ruling decisions will be handled by our shootout referee, Mike Lyons.
For the Shootout, all players play from white tees and Rule of 75 players (Age + Handicap >= 75) may play golds.
We will be playing the ball DOWN EVERYWHERE and RAKE and PLACE for all bunkers that have new sand. If your ball ends up in a bunker, you may lift, clean, rake and place within the bunker, no closer to the hole. Any bunkers that have not been re-sanded may be played as Ground Under Repair.
Balls marked on the green may be replaced to the side of any aeration holes or “Dollar Spot” fungus/disease, no closer to the hole. Additionally, “Dollar Spot” brown-patch areas on the green larger than 2 feet may be considered Ground Under Repair from which putting-line relief may be taken (as far as necessary), no closer to the hole.
Bare areas larger than one club-length, bare areas immediately adjacent to cart paths, and tire tracks should be considered Ground Under Repair. DROP within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. Additionally, netting in re-sodded areas, drain trenches, and exposed rocks added as topper for drainage systems should be considered Ground Under Repair from which free relief may be taken, no closer to the hole.
Tall grass and unmaintained sections of the course may be played as penalty areas. These areas include: the hill between the cart paths for the 4th and 5th holes, right of the 7th hole fairway, surrounding the back and left of the 11th green, right of the 13th fairway and surrounding the 13th green, right of the cart path on the 14th hole, on the hill between the 14th and 16th holes, right of the 15th hole and surrounding the 15th green. In the case you do not find your ball in these areas, follow the standard red penalty area dropping procedure.
Any player who does not meet the MGA 2-in-30 handicap posting policy or has not submitted a written appeal for exemption prior to play to [email protected] if they are unable to meet the requirement, will automatically play as a 0 handicap for Men’s Night.
